Barony of Balrothery East

Balrothery East (Irish: Baile an Ridire Thoir[1]) is a barony in the former county of Dublin, Ireland,[1] in the modern county of Fingal. It is named after Balrothery village in the northwest of the barony.

Location

It is bordered by the baronies of Balrothery West to the west and Nethercross to the south; by County Meath to the north, and by the Irish Sea to the east.[2]

Towns in the barony

It includes the towns of Balbriggan, Skerries, Rush, and Lusk.[3]

History

It was organised soon after the Norman invasion of Ireland by Hugh de Lacy. Balrothery East formerly included Lambay Island,[2] which is now part of the Barony of Nethercross.[4]
